Greetings and happy Saturday! Today is another sensational Saturday at Sugar Creek Hollow and that means a new challenge and we have one that's perfect for this time of year. Valentine's Day is only a few weeks away and now is a good time to start creating a special card for those special folks in your lives. So to that end, this week we're challenging you to create a VINTAGE VALENTINE card this week.
Nothing to worry about in making a vintage style card - you're probably already using many of the techniques that lead to that look, like distressing for instance. You're basically wanting your card and papers to look old - so if you do that with rubbing a little brownish ink on the edges of your papers or scraping them against your scissors to "tatter" them a bit - that's all it takes to start. But we also have a great tutorial available on the Sugar Creek Hollow blog if you'd like to learn more about achieving a vintage style look. So pull out your distress inks, buttons and lace scraps and join us in the challenge this week.
If you look at this closeup photo, I've used distress inks along the edges of my papers and a vintage looking image to achieve the look. This wonderful "Valentine Birdhouse" image is new at the Sugar Creek Hollow Shoppe. I've also combined it with the "Barn Swallow" digi from SCH. As you can see I've paper-pieced this entire card. I've used digital papers here - some absolutely fantastic ones that have a vintage look. These papers are available at Shery K Designs - a wonderful and reasonable source for digi papers.
If you are new to the Sugar Creek Hollow challenges, we welcome you and hope you play along! Each week we will choose one random winner, who will receive a free digi of their choice from the Sugar Creek Hollow Shoppe and a badge to display on your blog. If you use a Sugar Creek Hollow image you will get two entries in the random draw. Just follow the instructions at the Sugar Creek Hollow blog and join us in the weekly fun!
Each week the Design Team will choose a Card of the Week and the creator of that card will get a badge to display. One overall winner will be chosen each month from the Cards of the Week. That person will be invited to be a Guest Designer and participate in the next challenge. An image will be provided to them to work with. The Card of the Week prize will be given when we have a minimum of 10 entries.
Now visit the Sugar Creek Hollow blog to see the rest of the design team creations - I know you'll be inspired by their talent in creating vintage style cards. Thanks for stopping by!

Sharon, your papers are wonderful! This reminds me of a quitlt. The birdhouse paper is so deceiving. At first I thought it was embossed! What a cute idea to make your bird and hearts match. Love your little branches too.

Sharon, I love your card!! Love the papers you used and how you printed the barn swallow. It's just perfect!!
Sharon, I thought this was beautiful in the first photo, but the up-close shot really shows off your intricate paper piecing. Those little pink roses are just divine. Are they made from paper as well? Lovely use of colors and textures...you should have been a quilter...they have an eye to use several patterns together and make them work such as you have. SPLENDID CREATION!!!!
